I confess that I have never been much of a multiplayer gamer but was nonetheless drawn to the original Call of Duty and Medal of Honor games due to my interest in World War II history. I enjoyed the "greatest hits of WWII" aspect of the games' single player campaigns despite their brevity and I was disappointed when Infinity Ward chose to move the franchise to modern times when there was still so many theaters of the Second World War to explore.
While I appreciate Sledgehammer Games taking COD "back to it's roots," I think it was a mistake to set it in Normandy. Between Saving Private Ryan, Band of Brothers, Call of Duty 1, 2 AND 3, the first couple Medal of Honors and the Brothers in Arms series, Normandy has been done to death. It certainly looks decent but that "been there, done that" feeling is gunna drag it down. I heard you're going to encounter an all Black US Army unit over the course of the game and it would have been nice to have played as one of them instead. Hopefully they'll at least try to expand story and character development compared to previous games.
Also, I must point out that I think the game's title is stupid. You don't name your game Call of Duty: WWII unless you going to show the war itself through as many different perspectives as possible like the first few CODs did and Battlefield 1 did for WWI. Call of Duty: The Bloody First or something along those lines would have been much better since that's what the single player story will center around.
Note to Treyarch:
If you're also going back to WWII next year here's what you do for World at War 2 to make it distinct from what we've seen before. Have it set in the Philippines and you play as a native Filipino who witnesses the Japanese invasion first hand and joins the resistance. The whole Philippines Campaign was almost Normandy level in itself in terms of scope. Wrap it up with the battle to retake the city of Manila, which was one of the bloodiest and craziest urban battles in history. Maybe alternate this player character with one from the all Japanese American infantry units who served with extreme distinction in it the Italian Campaign. Wrap that up with the Battle of Anzio which is another epic and bloody battle that a lot of people have never heard of. Hell, maybe even have us play as a Chinese soldier fighting the Japanese as well. Would certainly appeal to the China market.
Feel free to chime in with your own thoughts.

Operation Just Cause: The US Invasion of Panama
Thirty years ago, the United States carried out Operation: “Just Cause,” invading the Central American nation of Panama. The goal of the invasion was to depose the dictator general, Manuel Noriega, a corrupt and ruthless strongman who had originally been put in power by the United States in the first place. This is a surprisingly little known US intervention despite its recentness. It was the last time to date (and hopefully ever) that my country invaded a nation within our own hemisphere and yet many of my fellow Millennials have never even heard of it. Therefore, in commemoration of the conflict's 30th anniversary, I thought I'd

We Must End the Yemen Holocaust!
The mass genocide and famine in Yemen brought on by the US backed Saudi/UAE military coalition is STILL going on. According to the United Nations, it is the single worst humanitarian crisis in the world right now (which is REALLY saying a lot) and is now getting dangerously close to becoming a full on holocaust with a death toll that could very likely reach the millions. For those who are not up to speed, acter Mark Ruffalo made a video early this year which does a pretty good job summing up the horrific conflict, the US and Western support for it and the few principled US politicians who have been trying to stop it from the beginning:

I'm from the Philippines, and I'm glad to see someone recommend the story of the Battle of Manila. I live in Manila myself and I think the city was never able to fully recover after the war. It's as if it lost some of its soul, if that makes sense. It would've been an interesting setting, definitely. Some of my favourite WW2 themed games are set in the Pacific Theater of war like Medal of Honor: Pacific Assault. And I like your other ideas about setting it in other countries that aren't Western Europe. In China, I heard that there are hundreds of movies dedicated to butchering IJA grunts. Jackie Chan recently made a movie called Railroad Tigers, which also involves kicking lots of Japanese asses.
Putting as much perspectives of the war would've put the "WW2" part in the game's name, but sadly, that may be too controversial. Imagine if they made a story campaign with you playing as an Axis soldier. Few games have dared to try that, save for strategy games like Company of Heroes and the Blitzkrieg games. The Chinese state would ban the game instantly if there is even a shred of playing as a Japanese soldier in a story campaign.
